Man from the Rega clan arrested
Castello di Cisterna – He allegedly repeatedly threatened a merchant, even threatening his life, to force him to hand over a sum of money. This is the accusation underlying the precautionary warrant executed this morning by the Carabinieri of Castello di Cisterna against a person seriously suspected of extortion.
The order was issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate.
According to investigators' findings, the conduct the suspect is accused of is linked to extortion carried out using mafia-style methods and intended to benefit the Rega clan, a criminal organization active in Castello di Cisterna and surrounding municipalities.
According to the prosecution, the threats were repeated over time until the merchant was forced to hand over the requested money.
In addition to extortion, the suspect is also charged with the illegal possession and carrying of a handgun. These charges, too, are aggravated, according to the Prosecutor's Office, by the mafia method and the clan's purpose of facilitating the operation.
The Carabinieri operation is part of the Naples DDA's investigative efforts against alleged extortion and territorial control by criminal gangs in the Castello di Cisterna area.
As required by law, the suspect's responsibilities must be ascertained during the proceedings and the presumption of innocence remains in effect until a final sentence is issued.
