The victim Giuseppe D'Auria
Scafati – The family of Giuseppe D'Auria, the twenty-four-year-old from Scafati who was taken from him on the night of July 30th to 31st, is demanding only the truth. The young man was a tireless worker: on the morning of the accident, he had left for his shift at four o'clock at night at the fruit and vegetable market and was returning home for lunch before returning to his duties.
The parents' grief, calling for uncompromising justice, is compounded by a still-open legal process that offers no respite: the judicial authorities have in fact prohibited the cremation of the body, celebrated on the day of Ferragosto, to allow for any further, unrepeatable technical investigations.
The Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office, led by Chief Prosecutor Nunzio Fragliasso and Deputy Prosecutor Giuliana Moccia, has decisively changed the investigation by registering seventeen names as suspects.
Among them are sixteen doctors and nurses working at three hospitals in Campania who cared for the boy and the woman driving the car involved in the road accident.
The public prosecutor had blocked the first autopsy on August 6 to guarantee the right of defense to all personnel involved, allowing the second expert examination to be carried out only on August 13.
The case file, supplemented by Carabinieri findings and video surveillance footage, reveals the complex medical history the victim endured. After the violent impact in Pompeii, Giuseppe arrived at the emergency room of the San Leonardo Hospital in Castellammare di Stabia with a fractured femur and a deep lesion to his thigh. Investigators suspect that the alleged medical malpractice arose at this very facility, due to the failure to administer tetanus prophylaxis.
The young man's condition then worsened during his subsequent transfer to the Ospedale del Mare, where doctors discovered a complex fracture associated with gangrenous conditions in the sutured wound.
After an emergency transfer to the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples to attempt hyperbaric therapy, the twenty-four-year-old arrived at the specialized unit in desperate condition. Sedated and placed in a medically induced coma due to excruciating pain, Giuseppe died of devastating sepsis before undergoing curative surgery.
Experts from the Oplonti Prosecutor's Office will also be asked to shed light on the urban safety of the roadway where the accident occurred. The impact against a rusty metal pole, which was not adequately protected, caused the initial laceration of the leg. The magistrates intend to determine whether there are any further administrative responsibilities for the failure to remove or secure the obstacle on the roadway.
