Campi Flegrei: Caritas takes action alongside the population.

The earth is still shaking in the Phlegraean Fields following the magnitude 4.7 earthquake of July 31, the strongest in forty years, which caused significant damage and forced the evacuation of approximately 120 families. This morning, the Diocesan Caritas of Pozzuoli conducted an inspection of the neighborhoods most affected by the earthquake, assessing safety conditions and providing support to those affected.

Volunteers also visited the hubs in Naples and Pozzuoli, where nearly 300 residents are temporarily hosted, divided between set-up facilities and those hosted by friends and relatives. Among these, the hub on Via Terracina in Naples has provided assistance to approximately 40 people, as has the former NATO base in Bagnoli, while the Palatrincone in Monterusciello in Pozzuoli is hosting 140 displaced persons.

Father Giuseppe Carulli, director of the diocesan Caritas, emphasized the solidarity received nationwide, with the Italian Episcopal Conference and Cardinal Zuppi expressing their support to the Bishop of Pozzuoli, Monsignor Carlo Villano. "We are carefully supporting the most vulnerable families, the elderly, and the disabled, thanks to the work of parish priests and local collaborators," he stated.

The situation remains critical, especially in the waterfront areas of Via Napoli and Via Fasano, where numerous collapses have occurred, particularly in the historic center of Pozzuoli, including religious buildings. Water supplies are lacking in some areas, temporarily replenished by tankers.

Traffic is severely affected: Via Fasano and Via Sacchini are closed, with alternative routes posted, while a one-way system has been established on Via Pergolesi. The Wholesale Fish Market and the municipal cemetery are also temporarily closed.

Monitoring and safety operations are underway by the Civil Protection Department, Fire Department, INGV, and municipal technicians. 230 requests for assistance have already been received, and teams are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents.

Authorities urge the public to remain calm and to follow official channels only for updates and guidance. Numerous hubs and assistance centers are active in the affected areas, offering medical and psychological support to those who need it.

For emergencies and reports, dedicated numbers are available in the municipalities of Pozzuoli, Naples, Quarto, Bacoli, and Monte di Procida, with particular attention to the most vulnerable people with active social and health services.
