The port of Pozzuoli reopens tomorrow, but the situation in the town remains critical.

Pozzuoli – Maritime traffic between the mainland and the islands will be restored: the commercial port of Pozzuoli will officially reopen tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. The news was announced by the regional councilor for transport, Mario Casillo. The port was closed last night by order of the port commander following the damage caused by the powerful earthquake that struck the Phlegraean Fields.

This morning, technicians from the Campania Region and the Civil Protection Department conducted a thorough inspection, including at sea with the assistance of specialized divers, confirming that the damage is superficial and that the structure is safe.

According to the inspections, only a few connecting joints between the prefabricated modular concrete elements that make up the current docks, built after the bradyseismic crisis of the 1980s, have collapsed. The reopening will gradually restore normal maritime traffic between the mainland and the islands of Ischia and Procida, which has been severely impacted by the closure of the Phlegraean port.

The mayors of Procida and Ischia are issuing an SOS. The closure of the port of Pozzuoli occurred on one of the busiest weekends for tourism, but the concern isn't just the lack of passenger transport connections, but also the disruption to supplies between the mainland and the islands, which is impacting the commercial and tourism sectors.

Serious criticalities in Pozzuoli; damage to roads and buildings is underway.

Meanwhile, in the city hardest hit by the earthquake, the situation remains extremely critical. This was stated by Pozzuoli Mayor Luigi Manzoni, who assessed the situation and summarized the critical issues: "We are working together to determine the best course of action, from providing assistance to the population, which is our greatest concern, to understanding the extent of the damage to buildings, especially the damage to the main roads. We are also working with the special commissioner to reopen the hubs envisaged in the bradyseism plan as soon as possible. Now we need to provide concrete answers and reassure the population as soon as possible."

Mayor of Pozzuoli: Two roads are still impassable, only five injured remain in hospital, their lives are not in danger.

The seismic swarm that began yesterday evening with a magnitude 4.7 earthquake has left tangible signs in Pozzuoli. "Two roads are currently unusable, but we're trying to conduct further inspections to determine when we can reopen some of these roads. Regarding those evacuated, there are several, but in the next few hours we'll have a clearer picture," he adds. The 21 injured have "almost all been discharged, and only five remain in the hospital," he confirms. "I think two are in Giuliano Hospital and three in Pozzuoli, but their lives are not in danger."

Last night, many people were unable to return home; at the Palatrincone alone, there were about a hundred people. Naturally, the number could increase today, based on the checks carried out, but we are already working to understand how and under what conditions to welcome these people," he concludes.
