Castellammare, the "wall of shame" divides Pozzano beach.

Castellammare di Stabia – A two-meter-high metal fence, covered with bamboo canes, is reportedly blocking residents from free access to a portion of the shoreline on Pozzano Beach in Castellammare di Stabia. The matter was brought to the attention of Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli following numerous reports from residents and beachgoers.

To assess the situation, the parliamentarian went to the site together with the territorial representative of Europa Verde, Rosario Lotito, and found what he described as a serious illegal occupation of a stretch of state-owned coast.

The complaint: "An abuse that deprives citizens of the sea."

According to Borrelli, the barrier would not only block access to a portion of the shoreline, but would also limit the view of the sea. The bamboo canes were installed by the owners to reduce noise from the nearby public beach.

An explanation that the MP firmly rejects.

"We are faced with a full-blown abuse, an intolerable violation with no mitigating circumstances. The presence of bamboo canes is unjustifiable and merely a pretext to make a previously illegally closed public area more exclusive and private," says Borrelli.

"Immediate checks and restoration of legality"

The MP also points the finger at the bodies responsible for territorial oversight, arguing that a situation like this should not have gone unnoticed.
"It's absurd that the institutions responsible for monitoring the situation didn't notice anything, and that it was the constant complaints from citizens that made an inspection necessary," he emphasizes.

Borrelli therefore calls for prompt checks on all permits issued, the identification of any irregularities, and the application of the sanctions provided by law, with the barrier being removed if the required authorizations are confirmed to be missing.

The call for respect for public property

The MP concludes by reiterating the principle of free use of state-owned areas. "Beaches and the sea are common goods. No one can consider themselves the owner of state-owned maritime property or even enclose the coast at will," he concludes.
