Salerno: Olimpia Abbate becomes the first female police commissioner, prioritizing crime prevention.

Salerno welcomes a major change to its security administration with the appointment of Olimpia Abbate as its new police commissioner, the first woman to hold this position in the province. With experience dating back to 1991, Abbate boasts an impressive resume, having headed the police headquarters in Pistoia and Rimini and the Flying Squad in Caserta, becoming one of the first women in Italy to lead an investigative team of this kind and the first in Campania.

In his first press briefing, Abbate emphasized that prevention and territorial control will be at the heart of his operational strategy. "The province of Salerno is vast and presents different challenges depending on the area. My priority will be territorial control and prevention, seeking to intervene before crimes are committed," stated the new police commissioner.

Abbate's approach involves an initial period of in-depth knowledge of the local area to identify the most urgent actions to be taken. This morning, he met with the Prefect of Salerno, Francesco Esposito, with whom he initiated a constructive dialogue to address local issues in collaboration with the institutions and other law enforcement agencies.

Her predecessor, Giancarlo Conticchio, is destined for a ministerial role as an advisor, leaving Olimpia Abbate with the responsibility of leading security at a crucial time for the province of Salerno.
