Naples: Nighttime robbery at Asia warehouse: chased and arrested

Naples – Carabinieri officers from the Naples Mobile Radio Unit were called out overnight, patrolling the Cardarelli area. The operations center received a report of a theft in progress inside the Asia waste depot on Via Saverio Gatto.

Having quickly reached the area, officers located two people in a Renault Megane Scenic, believed to be connected to the theft. However, upon seeing the patrols, the two attempted to flee.

The escape between wrong-way traffic and dangerous maneuvers

A high-speed chase ensued, during which, according to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the Renault allegedly performed dangerous maneuvers and even drove the wrong way on some stretches of road.

The escape moved toward Scampia, where officers from the local Carabinieri station also intervened. Patrols managed to intercept the Megane again, but the two occupants continued to try to evade capture.

The rammings and the end of the race

In an attempt to escape, the car reportedly rammed two Carabinieri vehicles several times. The chase finally ended in Scampia, where officers managed to apprehend the two young men.

They are an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, both already known to the police and residents of the Roma camp on Via Macello.

Burglary tools and a cash register

The search of the Renault led to the discovery and seizure of several tools believed to be used for burglary and a cash register.

The operation also had consequences for two Carabinieri, who were injured during the chase and the ramming: doctors have given them prognosis of seven and three days, respectively. The two Carabinieri vehicles involved in the chase were also damaged.

The two young men were arrested and taken to prison. They will face charges of receiving stolen goods, possession of burglary-resistant objects, assault, dangerous escape, resisting arrest, and assaulting a public official.

The investigation continues to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the theft and determine whether the two arrested men were involved in other similar incidents.
