Naples: Violent robber from Soccavo arrested
The Carabinieri of the Naples Rione Traiano station have executed a precautionary detention order, issued by the investigating judge of the Naples Court at the request of the Naples Prosecutor's Office, against a 46-year-old Neapolitan man with a criminal record, considered a serious suspect in two aggravated robberies committed in the Soccavo neighborhood.
The investigation, coordinated by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, began after two separate incidents occurred shortly after each other in May and June.
Investigators sifted through a vast amount of footage captured by public and private video surveillance systems in the area. This meticulous work first allowed them to identify the motorcycle used by the alleged robber to approach the victims' cars and subsequently identify its driver.
The evidence gathered allowed the Prosecutor's Office to request the precautionary measure, which was later accepted by the preliminary investigations judge.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the 46-year-old allegedly always operated with the same modus operandi. At night, he would pull up alongside the victims' cars in transit and, at gunpoint, force them to hand over money and valuables.
In one of the incidents, he also allegedly tore two silver necklaces from the victim's neck, before quickly fleeing on his motorcycle.
During the search of the suspect's home, the Carabinieri found and seized a blank pistol without its red cap, as well as several items of clothing believed to be compatible with those worn by the perpetrator of the robberies, according to the descriptions provided by the victims.
Following the formal procedures, the 46-year-old was transferred to the Naples Poggioreale prison, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities. As required by law, the man is presumed innocent until a final conviction is issued.
