Pollution emergency in Scafati: white foam and miasma are choking the Sarno River.

The environmental nightmare returns to the Scafati area, where the Sarno River is once again covered in white foam accompanied by unbearable odors, forcing residents to barricade themselves in their homes. Authorities are called to take urgent action against illegal dumping.

The Sarno River is once again the scene of a serious pollution incident, this time in the Scafati area. Residents of Via Francesco Budi and surrounding areas have reported the presence of a thick white foam covering the water, accompanied by a highly nauseating and unbreathable stench.

This phenomenon coincides with the start of the tomato processing season, raising concerns about the nature of the spills. Despite repeated reports to 112, the Carabinieri, and ARPAC, residents complain about the lack of timely and effective intervention.

Local families are forced to barricade themselves in their homes to escape the unpleasant odors that compromise their quality of life.

The suspicion is that industrial or commercial businesses are avoiding activating purification systems, discharging untreated wastewater directly into the river. Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of Parliament for the Green-Left Alliance, called the situation an "endless disgrace," denouncing the seriousness of the illegal dumping and calling for strict controls and exemplary sanctions.

Borrelli also announced that he would send an urgent letter to ARPAC, the police, and the Municipality of Scafati to conduct immediate water sampling on Via Francesco Budi to identify the chemical composition of the foam and identify those responsible.

The appeal is clear: ongoing monitoring and a zero-tolerance policy are needed against those who harm public health and the environment, with seizures and fines for polluters. The situation in the heart of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese region remains critical and requires immediate action by the authorities to protect citizens and the territory.
