Naples and Campania weather today, August 2nd: red alert, high temperatures and record heat.

The fourth heat wave of the summer is reaching its peak today, also affecting Campania. Naples is among the 23 Italian cities marked with the Ministry of Health's red alert, the highest level of heatwave alert, indicating potentially dangerous weather conditions not only for the vulnerable, but also for the healthy population in the event of prolonged exposure.

Naples: sunny, muggy, and a perceived temperature of over 38 degrees.

In Naples, the day will be characterized by mostly clear or partly cloudy skies, with a low probability of precipitation. High temperatures will hover between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, but high humidity will cause the perceived temperature to rise to 38-39 degrees Celsius, making physical discomfort particularly intense, especially between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Winds will be weak to moderate, insufficient to alleviate the muggy heat.

Campania hinterland even hotter

The most extreme conditions are expected in the inland provinces of Campania. Between Caserta, Benevento, Avellino, and the Salerno hinterland, temperatures could reach 38-39 degrees Celsius, with locally higher peaks in areas far from the coast. Along the coast, however, the sea will help moderate temperatures slightly, but will not eliminate the severe discomfort caused by humidity.

The Ministry of Health's warning

The red alert represents the highest level of alert provided by the national system for heat waves. Health authorities recommend avoiding sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, drinking water frequently even when not thirsty, limiting outdoor physical activity, and paying particular attention to the elderly, children, and people with chronic conditions. The City of Naples has also issued a warning regarding the critical conditions expected until the next few days.

When will some relief come?

According to current forecasts, the intense heat will continue through Monday, with temperatures still very high, especially in the region's inland areas. Only in the second half of next week could temperatures drop slightly thanks to cooler air currents, but no significant change in the weather pattern is currently expected.
