Traiano district resident beaten and shot after a traffic dispute

Naples – A trivial traffic accident, a meeting to settle damages, and finally violence. The "clarification" meeting, which took place shortly before 23 p.m. Friday on Via Marco Aurelio, between two drivers from the Traiano district, a 39-year-old and a 60-year-old, both with no criminal record, degenerated into violence.

What was supposed to be a confrontation to establish rights and wrongs following a collision the previous day turned first into a brutal attack and then into a shooting mystery.

From words to the wooden club

The two had exchanged contact information on Thursday immediately after the accident, failing to reach an immediate resolution. At their meeting the following evening, however, their positions remained distant. The heated exchange quickly escalated to insults and the first shoving.

At that point, the situation escalated: the 39-year-old ran to his car, pulled a wooden baseball bat from the trunk, and violently struck his opponent in the back. The man's screams attracted the attention of passersby, who stepped in to separate the two fighters.

The Mystery of the Third Man

It is at this point in the story that the detail now being examined by law enforcement comes into play. According to the accounts provided by both parties, just as those present were trying to restore calm, a car arrived. The driver stopped for a few seconds, took aim at the 39-year-old, and fired, wounding him in the right leg. He then quickly fled and disappeared.

Search for evidence: no trace on site

Rescued by emergency medical services, the two injured men were transported to San Paolo Hospital. The 39-year-old was diagnosed with a gunshot wound with a prognosis of 20 days; the 60-year-old suffered bruises and abrasions that will heal in 10 days.

Officers from the Bagnoli Police Station are investigating the incident. However, the "unknown gunman" version remains unclear: initial investigations on Via Marco Aurelio revealed no shell casings or bloodstains, and the area lacks video surveillance. Investigators will interview the two suspects again in the coming hours to clarify the circumstances of an incident that still presents several uncertainties.
