Naples is preparing to host the 38th America's Cup, which will be held between the spring and summer of 2027. For the first time in Italy, the renowned sailing competition will see defending champion Emirates Team New Zealand and six challenger teams from the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, France, Australia, and the United States compete along the Neapolitan coast.

Before the main regattas begin, the calendar includes a preparatory phase as early as 2026, with trials that began in Cagliari in May and will return in Naples in September. These events will serve as a test for the teams' hull performance, strategy, and athletic conditioning ahead of the competition.

The challenge format calls for the challengers to compete in the Challenger Selection Series to decide who will challenge the New Zealand Defender in the America's Cup final. The hulls used will be those from the 37th edition in Barcelona, ​​appropriately modified according to the regulations, with the aim of containing costs.

The America's Cup, founded in 1851, is the oldest international sporting competition still in existence. The latest title, won by Emirates Team New Zealand in 2024 in Barcelona, ​​marks the third consecutive victory for the New Zealand team, which will defend its title in the waters of Naples in the next edition.
