Ponticelli: The 'La Fenice' shelter is at risk of eviction.

Naples – Forty dogs are at risk of losing their homes after approximately 25 years. This is the warning raised by enJOY4all APS for the future of the La Fenice Shelter, a facility that has operated for a quarter of a century in Ponticelli, on Via Virginia Wolf, taking in and caring for animals from situations of abandonment and serious distress.

The incident is linked to an eviction order issued by the City of Naples on August 11th, with a deadline of August 31st. The association is concerned not only about the fate of the facility, but especially that of the 40 animals currently living there.

No accommodations indicated for the 40 animals

According to enJOY4all APS, the measure does not indicate an alternative solution for the animals. Specifically, it does not identify a municipal shelter to which they can be transferred, nor a temporary facility capable of housing them while awaiting permanent placement.

For the association, this is a key aspect of the project. The relocation, in fact, cannot be considered a simple logistical operation: many of the dogs in the shelter are elderly, ill, phobic, or have behavioral difficulties that require special care, attention, and management.

"It's not just 40 dogs to move."

This is precisely the point at which enJOY4all APS focuses its appeal to institutions. "These aren't just 40 dogs to be moved," the association emphasizes, noting that some of the animals have spent much of their lives inside the shelter.
Any transfer should therefore ensure continuity of care, adequate conditions, and staff capable of managing the animals' different needs.

Hence the association's questions: where will the 40 dogs be moved? Which facility will be able to accommodate them? Who will care for the older, sick, or behaviorally challenged animals?

The appeal: "There must be a solution before the eviction."

enJOY4all APS clarifies that it does not wish to enter into the merits of the administrative and legal issues, which will also be addressed through the appeal announced by the association. The key, according to the organization, is to prevent an administrative matter from turning into an emergency for the welfare of 40 animals.

For this reason, the institutions are being asked to suspend the eviction proceedings, along with the immediate opening of a technical discussion with the Municipality of Naples.

The association also calls for a concrete and safe solution to be found for all the animals, for their fate to be clarified before any potential eviction, and for discussions to be initiated with the associations involved and other relevant institutions.

The demonstration of September 4th

Meanwhile, enJOY4all APS has appealed to local and regional newspapers to follow the story and gain first-hand knowledge of the situation at the Rifugio La Fenice.
The first public event is scheduled for Friday, September 4th at 5:30 PM, when a demonstration will be held outside the facility to draw the attention of institutions and the public to the future of the 40 animals.

"We're not asking for privileges. We ask that before any eviction, we consider what will actually happen to 40 animals, many of them elderly and with specific needs," says Hilary Di Leva. "If we're asked to clear an area, we also need to know where the animals currently living there will be housed. Behind every number lies a life, a story, and a responsibility."

The association is therefore inviting journalists, photographers, and television crews to participate in the demonstration on September 4th to document the situation and raise awareness of a situation that, without an alternative solution, risks turning into an emergency for 40 animals.
