The boulder that fell on the street
Moments of great fear occurred shortly after 13 p.m. today in Pozzuoli, where a large boulder suddenly broke away from the rock face and landed on the carriageway of Via Campana, near Montagna Spaccata, in the direction of Quarto.
The rockfall struck a Peugeot Station Wagon in which a married couple, aged 60 and 51, were traveling. The impact was particularly violent and only by chance did it prevent a tragedy.
The Carabinieri and Municipal Police officers promptly arrived on the scene, securing the area and starting investigations to reconstruct the events.
Despite the shock, the two occupants of the car miraculously survived. As a precaution, they were entrusted to the care of medical personnel and transferred to the hospital with a code white status, where they will undergo the necessary tests.
The causes of the boulder's detachment and the safety conditions of the rocky ridge overlooking the stretch of road affected by the accident now remain to be verified.
