Salerno launches a battle against cigarette butts: a social and environmental project in action in the city center.

An innovative initiative involves 20 beneficiaries of the inclusion income program to clean cigarette butts from the streets of Salerno, while promoting social inclusion and urban decorum.

This morning, Salerno launched a social project dedicated to removing cigarette butts from central areas of the city, initially focusing on Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

The initiative, promoted by the City's Department of Social Policies, involves twenty people receiving inclusion income. They work three days a week, four hours a day, collaborating with the Ogliara neighborhood association on extensive manual cleaning. Already involved in previous community cleanup projects, the teams have now extended their work to the busiest pedestrian areas, including Villa Carrara, Villa Bracciante, Fratte Park, and Rione Zevi.

In collaboration with Salerno Pulita, workers are distributing pocket ashtrays to smokers, offering a concrete encouragement to avoid littering. This simple but effective strategy aims to significantly improve urban decorum and combat a bad habit that damages the environment and the city's image.

Councilor for Social Policies Paola de Roberto emphasizes the project's dual value: "It combines inclusion and urban decorum. The workers involved provide a valuable service to the city and represent a concrete example of active participation." Vincenzo Bennet also emphasizes how this initiative complements existing activities on the beaches, strategically targeting high-traffic areas to promote more responsible behavior among residents.

With everyone's contribution, Salerno aims to transform a small daily gesture into a big step towards a cleaner and more inclusive community.
