Naples, the murderers of innocent Umberto Catanzaro will be in court on September 30th.

Naples. - A tragedy born of trivial causes, fueled by a spiral of jealousy, and ended in bloodshed. Nearly a year after that fateful September 15, 2025, justice is preparing to take its course in the murder of Umberto Catanzaro, the 23-year-old killed in a mafia-style ambush in the alleys of the Spanish Quarter.

The Naples preliminary hearing judge, Gabriella Logozzo, has set the preliminary hearing for September 30th. The two adults involved in the raid will be charged: Salvatore Percich, 46, and Anna Nesa, 21.

The dynamics: a death by mistake

Umberto Catanzaro was hit by bullets while inside a car with another young man, the real target of the attack. A cruel fate, an execution meant to strike someone else, but which ended the life of an innocent boy. Catanzaro fought for two months in the intensive care unit before finally surrendering on November 17, 2025.

According to the Prosecutor's Office's reconstruction, the commando that went into action consisted of six people. Four of them, minors, arrived at the scene of the ambush only a few seconds late, effectively rendering their logistical support, provided by Nesa itself, useless.

The charges and the criminal context

Salvatore Percich, a prominent figure in the local criminal scene, faces charges of premeditated murder aggravated by mafia-related tactics and frivolous motives. For the DDA investigators, prosecutor Urbano Mozzillo has outlined a criminal case that goes far beyond the individual murder.

Percich, in fact, faces a very serious charge: from loan sharking to drug dealing, including receiving stolen goods and possession of stolen weapons. His criminal record is further enhanced by his escape from house arrest, confirming the dangerous nature of the group. During the arrests, they were found in possession of drugs and over two kilos of explosives.
