Scott McTominay is back on the pitch, or rather, in the gym, and is nearing his return to Napoli. The Scottish midfielder has resumed training at the Castel Volturno Training Center following the cardiac ablation surgery he underwent on September 8th in England.
The operation, performed at Spire Manchester Hospital, was necessary to correct a mild, benign arrhythmia. After the procedure, McTominay spent two weeks of complete rest with his family before returning to Italy last Wednesday.
The Italian midfielder is now beginning his recovery journey, with the goal of gradually completing his reintegration into the team and returning to his full fitness level for competitive matches.
First, however, he will need to pass a mandatory medical check-up to regain his fitness to play. Only after receiving the medical clearance will the player be eligible to return to the squad and play for Napoli.
The timing still leaves the possibility of a return open for the next league match. McTominay could be called up for the match against Frosinone, scheduled for Saturday, October 10th at the Stadio Maradona.
The return of the former Manchester United player would represent an important step for the team, but any decision will be subject to the results of the medical tests and the progress of his athletic recovery.
