Torre del Greco: Historic tourist facility on the beach seized

A historic tourist facility on the Torre del Greco coast has been placed under preventive seizure by the Coast Guard as part of Operation "Sea and Lakes Safe 2026," a surveillance operation coordinated by the Campania Maritime Directorate.

The investigations were conducted by the Torre del Greco Port Authority in collaboration with the Municipal Police and the Municipality's technical staff. Upon completion of the investigation, the facility's managers were charged with illegally occupying land belonging to the state maritime property.

Concession expired, structure under seizure

Further investigations revealed that the managers of the large restaurant, a historic establishment in the area, no longer held a valid concession, which had been lapsed.
The owner company was therefore charged with maintaining and using without authorization works on two floors, for a total surface area of ​​approximately 1.400 square meters.

To prevent the continuation of the activity deemed illegal, the Coast Guard proceeded with the precautionary seizure of the entire facility. Inside the restaurant, the dining room furniture, already prepared for upcoming events, was found.

On the floor below, over 400 items of beach equipment were also found and seized, including umbrellas, deckchairs, and sunbeds, as well as other furnishings and furnishings.

An illegal fishing net was recovered in Ercolano.

That same morning, surveillance activity also extended to the Ercolano area. Coast Guard personnel from Portici coordinated the recovery of an unreported fishing net, located near the cliff in the La Favorita area.

The net, approximately 300 meters long, was recovered and subsequently landed in the port of Portici thanks to the collaboration of the Flag Miglio d'Oro sea-sweeper, engaged in collecting waste at sea, and the vessel of the ODV Hippocampus association.

Risks to the environment and navigation

The use of illegal and unmarked nets, the Coast Guard emphasizes, is not only a problem related to illegal fishing. These devices can also cause damage to the marine ecosystem and pose a risk to navigational safety, as well as to any divers in the area.

The fight against illicit use of state-owned maritime property and illegal fishing will continue in the coming days, coordinated by the Naples Maritime Directorate and the Judicial Authority, with the aim of ensuring the proper use of state-owned property and the protection of the marine and coastal environment.
