In the photo, a detail of the story.
A heartfelt complaint has been received from residents and tourists who frequent the Palinuro Natural Arch, one of the most iconic beaches in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The access road is completely besieged by cars and campers parked illegally near the protected area.
Unauthorized parking generates heavy traffic, raises dust, accumulates waste, and poses a significant safety risk to swimmers and children, who are forced to walk between passing and unregulated vehicles. This neglect has persisted for years: as early as 2023, it was the subject of reports and press articles, but no effective measures have been taken to reorganize access and safeguard the reserve.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green and Left Alliance, spoke out about the matter: "It is unacceptable that an internationally renowned natural jewel, located in a top-level protected area, should be transformed into an illegal and makeshift open-air parking lot.
Those who love this area have a duty to report its poor services. We ask the Park Authority, the Municipality, and the relevant authorities to intervene immediately with stringent controls, restoring legality, regulating access, and restoring the proper decorum to a heritage that deserves to be protected and enhanced, not abandoned to anarchy." The relevant authorities have not yet provided official feedback.
