A 49-year-old man was struck by a collapsing wall in his shop and rescued after emergency surgery at the CTO.

Naples – A serious accident, a significant hemorrhage, and a race against time. The 49-year-old man, who was crushed by the collapse of a wall inside his auto parts store in the Rione Sanità district, arrived at the emergency room of Naples' CTO Hospital in extremely critical condition.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of September 17. The man, rescued and quickly transferred to the hospital, was immediately taken care of by medical personnel and transferred to the emergency area with a red code.

Arrival at the Emergency Room

The medical team immediately diagnosed the patient with a particularly serious medical condition. The patient had multiple fractures, a serious injury to a lower limb, and significant ongoing bleeding.

The initial stages of care were coordinated by Dr. Giovanna Cristiano and the nursing staff on duty, who were engaged in the assessments and procedures necessary to stabilize the 49-year-old's condition and contain the blood loss.

A situation made even more complex by the need to respond quickly in the absence of available beds in trauma centers. In this scenario, the CTO has become the point of reference for emergency management.

The race against time in the operating room

A long and complex surgical procedure began around 9:00 PM. Working side by side was a team of professionals from various specialties at the Colli Hospital.

Pierluigi Angelini, director of the Emergency Surgery Unit, Antonio Allocca, head of the Department and director of the Orthopedics Unit I, orthopedists Rossi and Pensa, Emergency Surgery Unit surgeon Diego Maria Vallefuoco, and anesthetists Sergio Luise and Luca D'Alessandro, spoke in the operating room.

Fracture stabilization

The primary goal was to bring a particularly complex traumatic situation under control. The team proceeded to surgically stabilize the fracture using an external fixator.

Subsequently, a negative pressure dressing was applied using a VAC system, a technology used in the management of complex wounds to aid wound control and the healing process.

A delicate operation, carried out through the coordinated work of surgeons, orthopedists, and anesthetists.

The transfer to intensive care

The operation was successful. Following the procedure, the 49-year-old was transferred to the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit at CTO Hospital, where he remains hospitalized and undergoes continuous monitoring.

Anna Iervolino, general director of the Colli Hospital, emphasized the team's work: "What happened demonstrates the CTO's ability to ensure a timely response even in the most complex and critical care situations."

The Director General then highlighted the role of "professional expertise" and "teamwork between the various specialties of the facility" in managing the emergency.
