Nusco: Tunnel accident leaves one dead and one injured
Nusco – One dead and one seriously injured is the tragic toll of an accident that occurred after 4:00 a.m. this morning on the Ofantina bis, the state road connecting Avellino to the towns of Alta Irpinia.
The impact occurred inside the “Colle Tagliabosco” tunnel, in the municipality of Nusco, where a car and a waste collection compactor collided head-on.
The 46-year-old driver of the car was killed in the accident. He was extracted from the wreckage by firefighters, already deceased. The truck driver was taken to Avellino's Moscati Hospital with critical condition. Traffic on the highway was blocked for several hours and diverted by ANAS personnel onto alternative routes. Carabinieri officers from the Montella Company are reconstructing the accident details. The Prosecutor's Office has ordered the seizure of the vehicles involved to determine who was responsible for the head-on collision.
