The fire of Positano
Positano – The nightmare of fires returns to the Amalfi Coast. A vast blaze broke out this evening, Wednesday, September 30, affecting the hilly area approximately 670 meters above sea level between the town of Positano and the village of Santa Maria del Castello, in the Vico Equense area.
The alarm was raised shortly before 19:30 PM, when the flames, clearly visible even from a great distance, began to spread through the vegetation. Several firefighting teams promptly arrived on the scene, engaged in complex firefighting operations conducted exclusively from the ground, made even more difficult by the darkness and the rugged terrain.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but among the lines of investigation being examined by authorities, arson has not been ruled out. Further technical investigations will determine the exact origin of the fire.
The incident represents yet another blow to a fragile region, already severely affected by the numerous fires that have devastated various stretches of the coast in recent months. Rescuers will remain on the fire line throughout the night, attempting to contain the flames and prevent their further spread.
