Bagnoli Futura trial: company executives convicted on appeal

Naples – Bagnoli Futura trial and land management in the former industrial area of Naples: four convictions on appeal.

The Court of Appeal of Naples (Second Section) sentenced former general director Mario Hubler to one year and eight months; former technical director Gianfranco Caligiuri to two years and six months; architect Giuseppe Pulli to one year and eight months; and Alfonso De Nardo, former head of ARPAC, to two years in prison.

The judicial authorities granted suspended sentences to Hubler, Pulli, and De Nardo, and revoked the accessory penalty of disqualification from holding public office (for five years) against Caligiuri. No proceedings were taken against notary Sabatino Santangelo, former deputy mayor of Naples, as he died last January from self-harm.

Caligiuri's lawyer, Alfonso Furgiuele, announced that he will appeal today's ruling to the Supreme Court.

The legal proceedings began in 2007 with investigations into the redevelopment and remediation project for the former industrial area. The second-instance trial was retried after the Supreme Court of Cassation adjourned the case on May 14, 2025, reversing the February 5, 2018, ruling in which the Criminal Section VI of the Court of Naples handed down six convictions for crimes related to the management of the area and the failure to carry out remediation through Bagnoli Futura, the in-house company that went bankrupt in 2014.
