Benevento, gunfire at Wikka Park: 22-year-old arrested for attempted murder

Benevento – An arrest for attempted murder brought an end, at least on the investigative front, to the frightening evening of August 27th in Benevento. Officers from the Cervinara Police Station, in collaboration with the local police headquarters, arrested VP, a 22-year-old resident of Benevento, originally from San Martino Valle Caudina.

He is accused of shooting a 27-year-old man from Benevento multiple times with intent to kill. According to investigators' reconstruction, the incident took place in Piazza De Mita, near the "Wikka Park" bar. There, the 22-year-old allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire on his rival. The injured man was taken to the hospital. A stampede broke out among the many young people present.

The shock also affected the restaurant's manager, who fell ill and was treated by 118 paramedics. The following day, August 28, the Police Commissioner ordered the business to close for a fortnight. Several institutions intervened in the incident, including the mayor of Benevento, Clemente Mastella. VP appointed Vittorio Fucci as his legal representative.

The hearing to validate the arrest is expected in the next few hours: that will be the first opportunity for the 22-year-old, assisted by his lawyer, to provide his version of events.
