Waste inspections and a double investigation in Caserta, as part of efforts to combat environmental crimes in the so-called Land of Fires. Carabinieri officers from the Caserta Company's Operational and Mobile Unit fined the driver of a truck and reported the company's owner for alleged irregularities in the documentation relating to the transportation of waste material.
The operation began this morning following a request for support from Italian Army personnel of the 8th Bersaglieri Regiment "Garibaldi" in Caserta, engaged in a territorial control operation to prevent and combat environmental crimes.
During the investigation, officers stopped an Iveco Daily driven by a 47-year-old man, an employee of a restoration company. The vehicle contained construction materials classified as non-hazardous waste.
The inspection revealed the absence of the Waste Identification Form, the document required by law to accompany the transport and ensure the traceability of the material. For this violation, the driver was assessed an administrative fine of between €1.600 and €10.
However, the investigation took a different turn shortly thereafter, when the company owner, a 35-year-old resident of Caserta and already known to law enforcement, arrived on the scene. According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the man showed officers a form intended to justify the transport of the material.
Further checks on the document, however, revealed that the form was generated after the truck inspection. This led to further investigations and the 35-year-old man, who is at liberty, being reported to the judicial authorities.
The company owner is currently under investigation for material forgery committed by a private individual and forgery of a public document. His position will now be assessed by the judicial authorities and, as required by law, the suspect is considered not guilty pending a final sentence.
The operation is part of the control system implemented in the Terra dei Fuochi area, where the Carabinieri, together with other environmental surveillance units, maintain a high level of vigilance over waste management, transportation, and traceability.
The inspection of the vehicle thus allowed us to verify not only the nature of the material transported, but also the regularity of the required documentation, revealing elements that required the intervention of the judicial authorities.
