Change at the helm of the Ogaden Interregional Command: General Castello takes command in Naples

The handover ceremony at the head of the Ogaden Interregional Command, which covers five regions of Central and Southern Italy, took place in Naples at the "Vittoria" barracks. Lieutenant General Rosario Castello took over command from General Massimo Masciulli, who was assigned to a senior position at the Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate in Rome. The ceremony was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Carabinieri, General Salvatore Luongo, along with civil, military, and religious authorities, as well as representatives of the Carabinieri.

General Castello brings with him a wealth of experience gained in multiple Italian regions, from Piedmont to Sicily, holding operational, territorial, and staff positions. Specifically, he led the Carabinieri Legions of Basilicata and Sicily, facing very different territorial and criminal contexts. He will now lead a command that represents a crucial point of reference for local communities thanks to the widespread presence of Carabinieri stations.

In his remarks, Commander General Luongo emphasized the importance of a command that combines firmness and respect for individuals, authority and the ability to listen, recalling that behind every uniform is a person to be supported and valued. During the ceremony, General Luongo also expressed his sympathy to the family of Lance Corporal Antonino Roberto Centoze, who recently passed away.

General Castello stated his intention to continue the work already done, focusing on a constant presence among citizens, territorial control, and the fight against common and organized crime. The departments' actions will be guided by constant coordination between the various components of the force and by leveraging the unique characteristics of the various regions, integrating local knowledge and modern investigative capabilities.

General Masciulli expressed his hope that the Command would continue its modernization process while preserving the force's identity, particularly the fundamental role of Carabinieri stations as local garrisons in communities.
