Drugs seized in Avellino prison thanks to the nose dog Spike.

In the Avellino prison, Penitentiary Police patrols led to the seizure of approximately one kilo of drugs in just three days. Among the most significant interventions, the drug-sniffing dog Spike sniffed marijuana hand-sewn into the hem of a bathrobe contained in a package intended for an inmate.

The narcotic substance, packaged in cellophane bags, joins other recent seizures of marijuana, hashish, and cocaine at the Irpinia penal institution. USPP President Giuseppe Moretti and Regional Secretary Ciro Auricchio emphasized the effectiveness of the controls despite the severe staffing shortage, praising the daily commitment of the officers and the Avellino detachment's dog unit.

The constant work of the prison police forces remains crucial to maintaining order and security within the prison facility, countering increasingly sophisticated attempts to smuggle drugs into the prison.
