Children separated in Lanciano, Pietro Loffredo makes an immediate inspection

The parents of the three siblings removed from Lanciano on September 17 have requested an immediate inspection of their home by the Juvenile Court of L'Aquila. They want an assessment of the current conditions of the home and an evaluation of the interventions carried out since the children's removal. This was announced by Angelo and Sergio Pisani, attorneys representing Pietro Loffredo, father of Fortuna, the girl raped and murdered in Caivano.

The defense attorneys are requesting that the investigation not only concern the residence, but also "compliance with the guarantees and procedures set forth in Article 403 of the Civil Code," which governs urgent interventions by public authorities for the protection of minors. The request for an investigation, the lawyers point out, is not equivalent to a prior investigation of any irregularities.

"If the critical issues that led to the removal have been eliminated and the home is now safe, the separation of children from their parents must also end," argue Angelo and Sergio Pisani. According to the two lawyers, any return could be accompanied by regulations, checks, and home support. Verification of actual safety conditions remains crucial, they emphasize.

The request for meetings

Pending the court's decision, the defense is requesting in-person meetings and regular contact between the three siblings and both parents. "Every day away from their family is burdensome," they say. "If the danger has passed, the reasons for their separation should also cease."

Finally, the lawyers have drawn the attention of the Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents, Marina Terragni. In their opinion, it is necessary to clarify whether the separation was inevitable or whether the critical issues could have been addressed with the intervention of social services and concrete support for the family. At this time, the possibility of family reunification remains a request of the defense, subject to the investigations and decisions of the competent authorities.
