Democratic Party: "The government's response to the Campi Flegrei disaster is inadequate; a multi-year plan is needed."

Naples – "While in Campania, center-right representatives are calling for a state of emergency for the Phlegraean Fields, the majority in the Chamber of Deputies has rejected amendments calling for resources and measures to address the bradyseismic crisis." This is the complaint of the Democratic Party council group in the City of Naples, which in a statement calls the decision "serious and irresponsible" because it comes while thousands of people are still displaced from their homes and municipalities are directly bearing the brunt of the emergency.

"The amendments didn't just involve immediate interventions," the Democratic Party members explained. "They also called for enabling local communities to address the long-term consequences of bradyseism, from property damage to support for families and businesses, to the necessary personnel for managing civil protection."

For the Democratic Party, "bradyseism will last for years," and we can't continue to reason with tools designed to address today's emergency. "We need measures that allow municipalities, the primary garrison, to plan and intervene tomorrow as well. We can't ask municipalities and the Region to govern it while simultaneously denying them the tools to do so."

Hence the call for a change in approach: "No longer interventions tied to individual emergency phases, but a multi-year plan for the Phlegraean Fields, with clear resources and dedicated tools for municipalities, which will allow for planning housing interventions, supporting families and businesses, strengthening staff, and supporting the region for as long as necessary." For the council group, "the Government must assume specific responsibility for this. If bradyseism is a phenomenon destined to continue, the State's response must also be commensurate with its duration."

Finally, the appeal to Democratic Party parliamentarians Marco Sarracino, Arturo Scotto, Roberto Speranza, Stefano Graziano, Piero De Luca, and Chiara Braga, to "persevere in this battle to defend the Campi Flegrei, without retreating a single step, as they are already doing in Parliament."
