Drugs and weapons hidden in the woods of Lettere sui Monti Lattari

Letters - The dense vegetation and the dangers of the rural hills are not stopping the Carabinieri's offensive. The police force continues its relentless push on the Lattari Mountains as part of Operation "Continuum Bellum 4," the massive strategy to combat drug trafficking and illicit crops led by the Carabinieri Company of Castellammare di Stabia, alongside specialized personnel from the "Puglia" and "Sardegna" Helicopter Squadrons.

A widespread operation, now active for four years, aimed at dismantling the supply centers in an area sadly nicknamed the "Jamaica" of Campania.

The arsenal among the vegetation

The latest checks focused on the mountainous countryside of Lettere, with particular attention to the Fuscoli area. Searching ravines, cavities, and dry-stone walls located in the most inaccessible parts of the area, the officers uncovered a veritable local criminal base. Among the rocks and foliage, they found 80 grams of hashish, 5 grams of marijuana, and 4 grams of heroin, along with an empty 9mm pistol magazine.

A thorough search of the area led to further investigations, leading to the recovery of an illegal weapon: a Beretta pistol with its serial number erased, ready for use with the magazine inserted (although empty), and the barrel of a 16-gauge double-barreled hunting rifle. All the war material was seized and will be subjected to thorough ballistic tests in the coming days to determine whether it was used in recent bloodshed or other criminal incidents.

Luna's nose and the trick of the lighters

The investigation was not limited to the woods, moving into the town center and resulting in a 27-year-old local man being charged with possession with intent to sell drugs. After searching the young man's home, the investigation continued in the condominium parking lot, where his minivan was parked.

The search was led by the unerring nose of Luna, the Carabinieri dog from the canine unit, who persistently reported the presence of illegal substances aboard the vehicle. The Carabinieri of the Mobile Radio Section then meticulously dismantled the car's bodywork and engine compartment. Hidden among the engine hoses and pipes, they found three emptied lighters, transformed into ingenious containers, containing a stash of hashish and seven doses of cocaine ready for sale.
