Fire in Giugliano: monitoring of airborne dioxins underway

Giugliano – ARPA Campania intervened yesterday to assess the possible environmental consequences of the fire that broke out late this morning in the municipality of Giugliano in Campania (NA) on a plot of land on Via Bosco di Casacelle.

In the evening the fire still appeared to be in progress and at an initial observation the technicians of the Arpac department of Naples noted, among the material subject to combustion, the presence of brushwood and waste of various types, including parts of disused vehicles, plastic and wooden waste.

This morning, airborne monitoring for dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls was activated near the fire site. Upon inspection this morning, the fire appeared to be out.
