Man dumps hazardous waste on the roadside, caught by camera traps

Camera trap images allowed us to reconstruct the incident and identify the alleged perpetrator. It happened in Teano, where a 45-year-old man, a local resident, was identified by the Caserta Provincial Police after abandoning a bucket containing paint and other materials classified as hazardous waste.

The material had been left on the side of the road, along a provincial roadway. The incident was recorded by video surveillance devices installed in the area specifically to identify and combat illegal waste dumping.

The decisive license plate for tracing the person responsible

Analysis of the footage allowed investigators to identify the license plate of the vehicle used to reach the abandoned site. From there, they were able to identify the 45-year-old.

Provincial Police officers, coordinated by Commander Biagio Chiariello, then carried out the investigation together with personnel from the Italian Forestry Police, reaching the man's home to proceed with the required procedures.

Reporting and seizure of the vehicle

Following the investigation, the 45-year-old was reported at large to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere for the unauthorized dumping of hazardous waste.

The measures required by law were also taken against him, including the seizure of the vehicle used in the abandonment and the revocation of his driving license.

Strengthened controls on the territory

The intervention is part of the Province of Caserta's efforts to combat environmental crimes, which the agency reportedly intensified, with particular attention to incidents of uncontrolled littering along provincial roads.

The use of camera traps is one of the tools used to identify those responsible and reconstruct the ways in which crimes are committed. In the Teano case, the images recorded by the device provided investigators with the necessary evidence to identify the vehicle and trace the alleged perpetrator of the abandonment.
