Naples, rats in the house: a health emergency in the Cavalleggeri area.

A resident of Traversa Cavalleggeri is experiencing a nightmare stay due to a rodent infestation. Activists and parliamentarians are calling for swift action from the City of Naples, linking the problem to the abandoned former Giacinto Gigante school.

A resident of Traversa Cavalleggeri reports a rodent infestation that has taken over her home and surrounding terrace for weeks. The situation has forced the woman to set traps in every corner and, at night, take refuge in her mother's house for greater safety. This is not an isolated case: neighbors and condominium areas are also affected by the emergency, which risks spreading to the entire block if swift action is not taken.

The group of activists and politicians following the matter—Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green Left Alliance, Rosario Pugliese (regional executive of Europa Verde), and Roberto Russo—conducted an inspection to assess the condition of the site. According to their reports, the source of the problem appears to lie in the adjacent former Giacinto Gigante school, a building that has been completely abandoned for approximately 25 years, with a perimeter wall directly adjoining the resident's property.

The emergency affects the entire perimeter of the area: even the parish priest of the nearby church has noticed a proliferation of rodents, necessitating a thorough rodent control of the church premises. Those present are calling on the City of Naples to immediately clean up and control rodents in the affected area and the former school, describing the situation as extremely serious and dangerous to public health.

Additionally, residents report that there are other abandoned buildings in the affected area—in addition to the school, a former barracks, and a bunker courtroom where a major anti-Camorra trial was held—with no plans for their redevelopment. Representatives argue that these "eco-monsters" should be demolished or regenerated.

Pugliese and Russo announced their intention to file a formal complaint with the relevant authorities and the municipal administration to seek urgent action. "We are facing an alarming health and hygiene situation," they emphasized, noting that if immediate action is not taken, the infestation could spread to the apartment building and the entire block, becoming the true crux of the neighborhood's degradation.
