Naples, the Via Cilea pickpocket caught on camera

Naples – He waited until the woman was alone, observed her from close range, and then allegedly snatched the bag from her hands and fled on his scooter. A 48-year-old man was reported by the Carabinieri of the Naples Vomero station on charges of snatching theft.

The incident occurred in the early afternoon, around 3:00 PM, on Via Santo Stefano, in the Vomero neighborhood. According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the 48-year-old man arrived in the area on a scooter and noticed a woman standing alone in front of a garage entrance.

According to images acquired by investigators, the victim was waiting and fanning himself with a fan. The man continued for a few meters, stopping the vehicle with the engine still running, before returning on foot.

At that point, he allegedly checked from a building to make sure the woman wasn't accompanied. After a few moments of waiting, he allegedly approached and grabbed her bag, snatching it from her hands before heading back to the scooter and driving away.

The surveillance cameras installed near the garage and along the route taken before and after the robbery were crucial to the investigation. The Carabinieri analyzed the footage, reconstructing the man's movements and identifying evidence useful for tracing his identity.

The 48-year-old was located at his home in the Traiano district. During their investigation, officers reportedly found the clothes he was wearing at the time of the theft, while the scooter captured on camera was parked on the street. He was reported.
