Neapolitan police officer found dead in Venice
Tragedy at the Venice Marine Border Police offices. A 37-year-old officer was found dead on Sunday, September 27, inside the changing rooms of the Tronchetto headquarters.
The dramatic discovery was made by colleagues on duty. According to initial reports, the man arrived at work regularly and, shortly after the start of his shift, momentarily left the other workers. He was found dead around 1:00 PM.
The incident was immediately reported and investigations were initiated to reconstruct exactly what happened.
The officer, Ciro Esposito, 37, was originally from the province of Naples. He had been wearing the State Police uniform since 2015 and had been serving in Venice for several years.
He had recently been assigned to the Marine Border Police, a unit responsible for control and security activities in the port and lagoon area.
The news of his death has caused deep sorrow among his colleagues, who remember him as a reserved and calm person. "He was a quiet guy, a good person," said one colleague. "I never thought he'd go through such a tragedy."
The news quickly spread throughout the offices and departments of the Venetian Police, leaving those who had worked with the 37-year-old dismayed.
Franco Maccari, national vice president of the FSP State Police union, also publicly expressed his condolences. He took to social media to remember the officer's passing and emphasized the need not to underestimate the signs of distress that can emerge among law enforcement officers.
"Another policeman leaves us," was the message the union representative shared on social media.
The Venice tragedy inevitably brings attention to the psychological conditions of those who work daily in contexts characterized by responsibility, stress, and potentially traumatic situations.
The issue of the psychological well-being of law enforcement officers has long been a central concern of trade unions, who are calling for prevention tools and support programs accessible to officers.
In this specific case, the investigations will clarify every aspect of the story and establish what preceded the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the grief of his colleagues and those who knew the young agent remains. A professional life that began in 2015 and continued for years in Venice has come to an abrupt end, leaving family, friends, and colleagues in shock.
The incident also serves as a reminder of the need to maintain high levels of attention to the psychological well-being of law enforcement officers, so that those experiencing difficulties can quickly find a listening ear and support.
