The Giro di Campania returns on Sunday after 25 years: 193 kilometers from the Royal Palace to the Plebiscito.

After 25 years, the Giro di Campania returns to the region's roads. The 64th edition of the cycling race is scheduled for Sunday, September 20th, starting from the Royal Palace of Caserta and finishing in Naples' Piazza del Plebiscito, after completing a 193,1-kilometer route through all five provinces of Campania.

The event is promoted by the Campania Region and the Metropolitan City of Naples, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Naples and the Royal Palace of Caserta, as well as the support of the Professional Cycling League, the Regional Committee of the Cycling Federation, the provincial administrations and the municipalities affected by the route.

The return also has strong symbolic value: the last edition, in 2001, concluded in Caserta with victory by Russian Dmitry Konyshev. Now the competition restarts from the same city, crossing the Caserta, Sannio, Irpinia, Salerno, and Amalfi Coast regions, before climbing to Agerola and descending towards the Vesuvian coast and Naples.

The route will touch three UNESCO sites and aims to make the race a showcase for Campania's landscape and cultural heritage.

"The Giro di Campania is a historic event that, along with Councilor Zabatta—whom I thank—we strongly desired to bring back to our roads after 25 years. It's important for us to unite all of Campania, promoting every territory and every community. And sport does this. It unites, fosters participation, and showcases the beauty and richness of our region," said Campania Regional President Roberto Fico.

Deputy Mayor Giuseppe Cirillo agreed: "As the Metropolitan City of Naples, with Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, we brought the Giro d'Italia to Naples and Campania, after many years of absence, for five consecutive editions. And it is from that work—infrastructure, organization, security, and promotion of the region, built year after year, and from the renewed collaboration with the Campania Region—that an idea that seemed to have been consigned only to the history books has taken shape again."

Regional Sports Councilor Fiorella Zabatta also expressed great satisfaction: "After 25 years, bringing the Giro di Campania back to the professional calendar is a source of great pride. We wanted a race capable of crossing all five provinces, from the inland areas to the coast, showcasing the beauty of our region. And there's one thing that makes cycling truly special: you don't need a ticket to experience it. People can take to the streets, see the champions up close, and participate in a great collective celebration."

The start is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. from the area in front of the Royal Palace, while the official start will be in Maddaloni, where the riders are expected to pass around 10:23 a.m. The decisive moment could be the climb to Agerola, home of the Gran Premio della Montagna: 14 kilometers with an average gradient of 6%, up to the top expected 47 kilometers from the finish.

Right along that climb is the stele dedicated to Fausto Coppi, protagonist of a historic feat in Agerola in 1955.

"We are deeply honored that the Royal Palace of Caserta has been chosen as the symbolic setting for the start of this regional cycling race. The Vanvitellian Complex is the perfect space to host such an extraordinary variety of events," emphasized the interim director of the Royal Palace, Antonio Tarasco.

The Giro di Campania is classified as UCI 1.1 and part of the Coppa Italia delle Regioni. Eighteen teams are expected to start. The race will be broadcast from 18:13.30 PM on Rai Sport, on HBO/Discovery platforms, and on the Lega Ciclismo Professionistico YouTube channel, with international coverage. Updates will also be available on the event's official social media profiles.

On the sidelines of the presentation, Umberto Perna, president of the Campania chapter of the Italian Cycling Federation, highlighted the current situation facing the regional movement: "Campania cycling is emerging from a dark period. The rebirth of the Giro sheds new light on a movement that is showing signs of growth, especially in the youth sector, but it still lacks the critical mass needed to generate continuity, clubs, races, and perhaps a new champion who harks back to the times of Giuliano Figueras or Crescenzo D'Amore."
