Tragedy on the Domiziana: A 22-year-old man exits his Golf to report the accident and is hit, killing him.

Yet another bloody dawn on the roads of Campania turns the end of a night into a tragic one. Shortly before sunrise, at kilometer 42+500 of the SS7 Quater "Domiziana" state road, in the hamlet of Varcaturo (Giugliano in Campania), a Volkswagen Golf crashed into the guardrail for reasons still under investigation.

The fatal impact on the roadway

Two young men were in the car: a twenty-two-year-old from San Cipriano d'Aversa and a twenty-year-old from Casal di Principe. Immediately after the impact, the two occupants managed to escape the vehicle, intending to warn oncoming traffic of the imminent danger. This instinctive action proved fatal: a passing car struck the twenty-two-year-old, killing him instantly.

Carabinieri officers from the Giugliano mobile radio unit and the Varcaturo station promptly arrived on the scene, initiating the usual surveys and investigations to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident.

Dramatic night in Campania

Unfortunately, the Domiziana tragedy wasn't the only road tragedy in recent hours. Also between midnight and dawn, in Forio d'Ischia, a 39-year-old man lost his life following a violent collision between his motorcycle and an e-bike, bringing the tragic death toll to two in just a few hours.

A road accident can turn tragic even after the vehicle has stopped. Getting out of the car and standing on the roadway, especially in poor visibility, exposes you to the real risk of being hit. To avoid dramatic consequences, the Carabinieri remind you of some fundamental safety rules:

• Turn on the four-way flasher: Immediately turn on the hazard warning lights and, if the vehicle is moving, move it to a lay-by or out of the flow of traffic.

• Stepping out on the safe side: Leave your car on the opposite side of the flow of traffic and take cover behind the guardrail.

• Place the triangle carefully: Only place the mobile danger sign if operating conditions allow it to be done without risk to personal safety.
• Alert the emergency services promptly (112): Communicate the precise location (on extra-urban roads, specify the name of the road, mileage and direction of travel), the number of vehicles involved and the conditions of the occupants.
• Do not cross the roadway: Avoid crossing lanes or returning to your vehicle to retrieve personal items.
