A dive from a height of about 30 meters, followed by a violent impact with the water and a race against time for rescuers. A 23-year-old American man, originally from New Jersey, is in serious condition after being injured this afternoon at the Furore Fjord on the Amalfi Coast.
According to initial reports, the young man jumped from the bridge overlooking the fjord. After the impact, he managed to reach the beach, where operations began to provide him with assistance while awaiting the arrival of rescuers.
Emergency vehicles from 118, the Carabinieri of the Amalfi Coast Company, the local police, and a Coast Guard patrol boat responded to the scene. Given the seriousness of the situation, a helicopter rescue was also activated.
The young man was carried on a scoop stretcher from the beach to the road, where an ambulance awaited him. He was first transported to the emergency room of the Costa d'Amalfi Hospital, where the 23-year-old received initial treatment and diagnostic tests.
Meanwhile, the Felix 2 helicopter reached the Scala sports field and remained available for the possible transfer of the injured man to the Ruggi d'Aragona hospital in Salerno.
The rescue operations also required a temporary traffic blockade in the area, necessary to allow emergency vehicles to intervene and ensure the boy's removal. The precise stages leading up to the dive and the manner in which the young man entered the water remain to be reconstructed. Investigations are ongoing.
The accident brings attention to the risks of high-altitude diving in the picturesque setting of the Furore Fjord. A similar incident occurred in July 2025, when an American tourist was seriously injured after diving from about 30 meters into the sea.
