Deteriorated asbestos stored outdoors, burned waste, and an industrial operation lacking the necessary permits for emissions into the atmosphere. This is the result of inspections carried out by the Avellino Forestry Police, who charged seven people with environmental crimes.
The most high-profile case emerged in Chiusano San Domenico, where officers discovered approximately 50 cubic meters of asbestos-containing waste on a private property. The material, decomposing and left in the open, led to four people being charged.
Another operation was carried out in Solofra. Here, the sole director of a farm and a worker were caught burning plant residues along with various other waste. The combustion allegedly released fumes and potentially harmful substances into the air.
Finally, in Serino, the inspections targeted a company specializing in plastic coating. The owner was reported because the business lacked the required permit for atmospheric emissions.
Three separate interventions that led to a total of seven complaints and that bring renewed attention to waste management, the prevention of illegal fires, and compliance with environmental regulations in production activities.
