Benevento, attempted murder at De Mita Park: 22-year-old Valerio Pagnozzi released from prison.

Valerio Pagnozzi, 22, from Benevento, originally from San Martino Valle Caudina, has been released from prison. He was charged with the attempted murder of a 27-year-old man from Benevento. The Naples Court of Review upheld a procedural objection filed by lawyers Vittorio Luigi Fucci and Giuseppe Vittorio Fucci, ordering the young man's release.

The incident dates back to the night of August 27, 2026, when, according to the prosecution, several gunshots were fired at a 27-year-old inside the "Wikka Party" club in Piazza De Mita, in the park named after Ciriaco De Mita, in Benevento.

According to the prosecution's reconstruction of the case, Pagnozzi allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim several times with the intent to kill her. The injured young man managed to take cover behind a counter before being rescued and taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.

The gunshots had caused panic among the many young people in the club, who all fled for the exits. The business manager had also felt unwell, requiring emergency medical assistance.

The investigation is reportedly based on witness statements, wiretaps, and technical investigations conducted by the Prosecutor's Office. Following the incident, the police commissioner ordered the premises to be closed for 15 days on August 28th.

The incident had caused great concern in the city, drawing the attention of several institutions, including the mayor of Benevento, Clemente Mastella.

The preliminary hearing's decision came after the procedural objection raised by Pagnozzi's lawyers was upheld. The young man was therefore released. The release concerns the precautionary measure and does not constitute a final ruling on the charges, which will be assessed in subsequent judicial proceedings.
