New rules for Neapolitan nightlife, with limits on the sale and serving of alcohol and staggered closing times for venues. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi has signed an ordinance that will be in effect from October 16th to November 16th and will affect some of the city's busiest areas, from Chiaia to Vomero, including the historic center, the Spanish Quarter, Bagnoli, and Fuorigrotta.
The measure introduces a ban on the sale and takeaway of alcoholic beverages every day from midnight to 6 a.m. The closing times for commercial establishments will vary depending on the day of the week: by 1 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday, by 2 a.m. on Friday, and by 3 a.m. on Saturday. Tidying up and cleaning must also be completed by these same times.
The provisions will affect various types of businesses: public catering establishments, neighborhood shops, artisan workshops that prepare takeaway food and drinks, and vending machines.
The affected areas include the Chiaia bar district, with Via Santa Caterina a Chiaia, Via Filangieri, and Piazza San Luigi, as well as Via Francesco Petrarca. The restrictions will also apply to the Spanish Quarter and the historic center, including Via Bellini, Via Carlo Doria, and Via Micco Spadaro.
In Vomero, the measures will affect Piazza Luigi Vanvitelli, Via Alessandro Scarlatti, Via Alvino, some sections of Via Scarlatti and Via Merliani, as well as Via Luca Giordano and Via Aniello Falcone. Restrictions are also in place on Viale dei Pini and Viale dei Tigli in Municipality III, as well as in the Bagnoli and Fuorigrotta areas, particularly along Via GB Marino, Via Lepanto, and Via Cariteo.
Anyone who fails to comply with the regulations will face an administrative fine of between €25 and €500. Repeated violations may result in the Municipality suspending the business for one to thirty days; in more serious cases, the permit may even be revoked.
The municipal administration will conduct periodic checks to assess the impact of the measures and reserves the right to "adjust or renew the provisions at the end of the trial period."
According to the Municipality, the ordinance follows a consultation process involving residents, businesses, and trade associations, along with surveys and reports from the Local Police. The goal is to monitor the situation in the affected areas and evaluate the effectiveness of the new rules over the planned period.
