The Battle of Sarno 2026: The historical reenactment of knights and the Middle Ages returns on October 17th.

On Saturday, October 17, Sarno will travel back in time with the second edition of the historical reenactment dedicated to the battle of 1460. A journey among knights, merchants, falconers, and ancient crafts to rediscover a decisive page in the history of the area and the conflict between the Angevins and the Aragonese.

There is one evening when Sarno ceases to be merely a city of the present and returns to breathe the restless air of the fifteenth century. It is the evening of "The Battle of Sarno ," which returns on Saturday, October 17, 2026, with its second edition as part of the project "Sarno. Challenge to the Aragonese Court ," transforming the historic center and the area of the local market into a space suspended between history and reenactment.

It won't just be a costumed event. It will be a live reenactment of one of the most important military events involving the Sarno area in the 15th century. And for one evening, knights, men-at-arms, merchants, falconers, and jesters will once again populate the city streets. Leading the initiative are Giantommaso Esposito, president of the event, and Ennio Molisse , artistic director.

Sarno returns to the fifteenth century

The journey through history will begin at 19.00pm from May 5th SquareThe historical procession will set off from here, passing through the streets of the historic center until reaching the local market, the heart of the event.
It will be the beginning of an evening designed as a truly immersive experience. The area will be enriched by medieval markets, curated by the Artists and Merchants of Count Roger, where the public will be able to encounter atmospheres, characters and activities inspired by the medieval world.

There will also be space for archery, with the Doria Archers , while the entertainment area will host a succession of performances entrusted to the Falconieri dell'Irno , the Minstrels of the Borgo and Kirion the Jester. And then will come the most awaited moment.

When the knights arrive, history becomes a spectacle

Recreating the atmosphere of the battle between the Angevins and the Aragonese, key figures in the struggle for control of the Kingdom of Naples in the 15th century, will be the Company of Knights of the Papal Bull of 1394 AD and the Company of Arms "La Rosa e La Spada." The latter will also set up a real military camp, which can be visited within the event area.

Swords, armor, weapons, and combat strategies will thus become the elements of a story that transcends words alone. Because a historical reenactment works precisely when it manages to do something simultaneously simple and difficult: transform a date written in books into something the audience can see, hear, and imagine.

"Sarno. Challenge to the Aragonese Court": a story that continues

“The Battle of Sarno” represents one of the events of the larger project "Sarno. Challenge to the Aragonese Court", born with the aim of rediscovering and enhancing the history of the city and the territory.
The journey had already continued last April 16th with “Memoirs of a Storyteller”, a travelling historical conference held in Borgo Terravecchia with the participation ofEnrico Fermi Institute – Tourism and “The Barons' Conspiracy”, event held on Sunday 4 October at the National Archaeological Museum of the Sarno Valley, where the reenactment also becomes an opportunity to recount the dynamics of power, the conflicts between the sovereign and the feudal lords and the role of the territory in the court of Ferrante of Aragon.

A journey, therefore, that doesn't limit itself to reconstructing a single episode, but attempts to compose a broader narrative of fifteenth-century Sarno. A city that chooses to tell its own story.

The second edition of the event enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Sarno and this year it is enriched by the moral patronage of Campania region and Province of Salerno e Scabec.
Various local associations take part in the organization and participation: Sarnus Association, Pro Loco Sarno, Episcopal Committee, Serrazzeta-Fontanelle Committee, and Sarn'é Association.

The result is an event that brings together associations, historical dissemination, entertainment, and the promotion of local heritage. Because the real stars, in the end, aren't just the knights.
It will be Sarno. The Sarno of walls, courts, battles, and ancient rivalries. The Sarno that in 1460 found itself embroiled in a war for the throne of Naples and that today chooses to bring that page of its history back to the streets of the city.

The event is Saturday, October 17th, starting at 7:00 PM, when Sarno will go back 566 years. And this time, the Battle of Sarno won't just be a page to read. It will be a story to live.
