Naples – A historic ficus tree was drastically pruned, its branches reduced, and its trunk left severely exposed. This is what happened on Via Giacomo Leopardi, in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood, near an ANM office.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green and Left Alliance, spoke out about the matter, calling the operation "a disgrace." "Reducing a historic tree to a disfigured trunk is not maintenance," he declared.
Borrelli announced that he would send a note to the Naples City Council's Department of Parks and Gardens and the local police, requesting investigations into who carried out the work, whether the pruning guidelines were followed, and whether the necessary permits were obtained.
"The city's green spaces must be protected with care and professionalism, not mutilated," concluded the parliamentarian.
