Ischia hit by severe weather: 140 millimeters of rain in 30 hours, amid flooding, landslides, and collapses.

Ischia – A violent and prolonged wave of severe weather is severely impacting the island of Ischia. According to official Civil Protection reports, over 140 millimeters of rain have fallen over the last thirty hours, causing widespread problems, flooding, and landslides in several municipalities.

Firefighters are working tirelessly to respond to numerous emergency calls. The most critical situation is in Casamicciola—an area already devastated by the dramatic flooding of November 2022—where the fury of the elements has caused the final stretch of Via Selva Pera to collapse.

Fear also gripped Forio: during the night, lightning struck the dome of the Church of San Gaetano, in the heart of the historic center. The impact caused serious damage both to the exterior and interior of the sacred building, where sections of plaster and several pieces of debris were torn off.

Local authorities and Civil Protection technicians are maintaining a high level of alert, while inspections continue to verify the stability of the slopes and secure the most at-risk areas of the island.
