Maurizio Marinella: "Me, mayor of Naples? There are people who could do better."

Maurizio Marinella doesn't shy away from the possibility of running for mayor of Naples, but he makes it clear he has no intention of leaving his job. The name of the entrepreneur, a symbol of Neapolitan elegance around the world, periodically recurs in political rumors, especially among the center-right.

"Am I a possible candidate for mayor of Naples for the center-right? No, they bring me up all the time, but that's not the case. There are more important figures who could do better for the city," said Marinella, a guest on the Rai Radio1 program "Un Giorno da Pecora," interviewed by Giorgio Lauro and Nancy Brilli.

The entrepreneur admits, however, that he's flattered by the attention he's getting. "I'm happy because they put me out there every now and then, especially because I'd be a good fit for the right, left, and center, since everyone's been reaching out to me over time."

The approaches, he says, have come from various political quarters. "There are approaches from all sides, from the Five Star Movement to the Center," he explained, without, however, expressing any interest in pursuing a political career. His daily life remains tied to the historic family business. "I love my job; I'm in my shop from 6:30 in the morning until 8:00 in the evening; it gives me enormous satisfaction," he emphasized.

During the interview, Marinella also recalled some of the encounters and anecdotes related to the international figures who have chosen her ties. Among the most recent commissions are those for the King of Spain, for whom longer ties were made, fitting his height.

There was also a mention of Donald Trump, who in the past reportedly tried to convince the Marinella family to open a store in Trump Tower. "A few years ago, Trump courted us a lot," the entrepreneur said. The proposal, however, never materialized. "My father was still alive and asked me who that gentleman was... so we wrote to Trump to thank him and tell him we preferred to stay in Naples."

Among the most regular and special clients, Marinella finally remembers Silvio Berlusconi, for whom the house produced considerable quantities of ties. "President Berlusconi was by far the most devastating customer, in a good way," she said. "For more than three years, we made him four hundred and twenty ties every month." The boxes requested by the Cavaliere always included his favorite model, characterized by its blue and white pointed tip.
