Kevin De Bruyne was the star of Napoli's 3-0 victory over Frosinone. With a brace and a convincing performance, the Belgian midfielder earned praise from Massimiliano Allegri, who post-match also emphasized the advantages of playing him deeper.
"De Bruyne did well in Milan, serving up two or three sensational balls. Tonight he played in the two midfielders; he's an extraordinary player, and if he starts playing as a playmaker he'll become even better," the coach told Sky Sport.
Allegri then said he suggested the Belgian consider playing as a playmaker in front of the defense more seriously. "I told him that if he starts playing there, it'll extend his career by a couple of years. He doesn't really enjoy it because he wants to have fun up front, but he played well tonight."
The coach praised the team's initial attitude, while highlighting some areas that needed improvement. "The things that went well were our desire and our counter-attacking at the start of the match," he explained, noting the numerous opportunities they created without always managing to finish on goal.
"We had six or seven chances without a shot on goal. If you don't close out the play, they start again and it becomes a costly game of ping-pong," Allegri added, citing technical precision as one of the elements he needs to work on.
In the second half, Napoli adopted a more cautious approach, partly to manage their energy after an intense first half. "In the second half, we played more defensively because we had invested a lot. We were good, but we had chances when we had a man advantage, and we can't afford to miss those balls."
Positive words also for Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who played a key role with his runs and was involved in the play that led to Noa Lang's second goal. "Giovanni always had the central runs. He was good, playing with a give and take style of basketball," the coach concluded.
