Rimini – Insults and tense moments erupted yesterday at the Rimini sports hall during the first home game of the Serie A2 basketball season against Avellino. The victim of the attacks was the Israeli wife of Cody Demps, the Rimini basketball player who played in Israel until last year.
According to the local edition of Resto del Carlino, two fans allegedly shouted "murderer, murderer" at the pregnant woman. Shortly afterward, a scuffle broke out, which was later quelled. The two were removed by the police. The woman, in tears, was reached and helped by other spectators present.
Mayor Jamil Sadegholvaad reacted harshly today, calling it a "shameful verbal attack." "I want to express my deepest sympathy and solidarity to the lady for an unacceptable incident that has nothing to do with Rimini," he said. He added: "Rimini, a gold medalist for civil valor, never condones any form of violence, abuse, war, or individual abuse, in any context or situation."
