Illegal moorings between Mergellina and Borgo Marinario: six vessels seized

Naples - Six vessels were seized and four people were arrested. This is the result of an operation carried out on October 9th by the Coast Guard - Port Authority of Naples, as part of an investigation coordinated by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office into the alleged illegal mooring system between Mergellina and the Borgo Marinario.

The order, issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples, concerns several pleasure boats and vessels that, according to the investigation, were allegedly used for mooring and rental purposes without the necessary authorizations.

The occupation of the body of water

The defendants are accused of jointly committing unlawful conduct that allegedly continued over time, characterized by the unauthorized occupation of a portion of the sea, in the absence of concessions or authorizations.

The area was allegedly used permanently for the mooring of boats and dinghies, as well as for the rental and leasing of recreational craft for profit. This management, according to investigators, would have diverted space from public use, transforming it into a hub for unauthorized nautical activities.

Vessels moored even at night

Among the disputed aspects is also the continuous presence of a fleet of vessels, left moored in the affected body of water even during night hours, without the required light or visual signals.

According to the investigations, this situation would have created a real and serious risk of collisions and maritime accidents. The vessels would also have obstructed nautical maneuvers, compromising the regularity of public commercial services.

The roles contested by the accused

The conduct hypothesized by investigators would have been structured across various tasks: from the de facto management of the area and the illegal moorings to material support in daily operations, including maneuvering the vessels and monitoring the water surface.

A role was also allegedly played by those who supplied the boats used in the disputed activity, physically coordinating the boarding operations of customers and tenants.

Six vehicles seized, four people informed of the investigation

Following monitoring and investigative findings, the Coast Guard carried out the precautionary seizure of six vessels, including boats and dinghies used, according to the prosecution, for rental and land-sea transfers.

At the same time, four notices of investigation were served, with the related notice on the right of defense.

The investigation aims to shed light on the organization of the contested activities and the responsibilities of those involved. The investigative hypotheses will be verified during the proceedings, respecting the presumption of innocence until a final conviction.
