Napoli vs Barcelona head-to-head

The Neapolitan setting also emerges when compared to Barcelona, where the 2024 preliminary regatta totaled approximately 33 visitors. Naples recorded 252.520 visitors, approximately 7,5 times as many. On average, Barcelona had approximately 8 visitors per day compared to approximately 63 in Naples; the daily peak went from 15.000 to over 120.000. A global framework of visibility and content

The event generated significant media coverage: 225 accredited media outlets and over 20 million views of content published on social media. This influx of attention had a tangible impact on regional tourism: September 2026 saw growth compared to the previous year, contributing to a more vibrant tourist season and a boost to the local hospitality network.

Outlook for 2027: A Scale That Changes Everything

According to Sport e Salute, the event's SWOT analysis for Naples is expanding, with a projected economic impact of between €1,4 and €1,7 billion in direct and indirect economic benefits. 2027 will see a leap in scale: the team bases will move from Nisida to Bagnoli, covering 37 square meters, the Race Village and Fan Village will expand to 100 square meters, and the event will extend to 62 days, 40 of which will be dedicated to racing.

The teams will remain in the area for approximately a year, with total visitor numbers estimated at between 3 and 3,5 million. This represents an estimated 12- to 14-fold increase compared to the 2024 and 2026 attendance figures, reflecting a transformation not only in sport but also in urban planning and the economy.

Economic impact and tourist reuse

The analysis highlights that the future dimension of the America's Cup in Naples will not be solely sporting. The economic impact, both direct and indirect, is expected to be between €1,4 and €1,7 billion, positioning Naples not only as a venue for regattas, but also as a driving force for tourism, investment, and infrastructure redevelopment that will impact the Gulf area and its neighborhoods, including the bases and associated events.

A trajectory that looks to the future with pragmatism

The preliminary regatta has been described as concrete proof of the potential scale of the America's Cup in 2027: an event capable of attracting millions of visitors, generating new tourist flows, and providing a significant economic boost to the region. Naples, therefore, confirms its role as a hub for major sporting events, capable of presenting both numbers and long-term prospects, charting a course not only for sailing, but for the local economy and tourism in the area.
