Illegal campsite seized in Palinuro
An entire campsite spanning approximately 8 square meters has been seized in Palinuro, in the municipality of Centola. The tourist accommodation facility, located a short distance from the shoreline and in one of the most environmentally valuable coastal areas of Cilento, was found to have completely lacked the necessary permits for its construction and operation.
The order was carried out by the Carabinieri of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park Department in execution of a precautionary seizure order issued by the investigating judge of the Vallo della Lucania Court, on the orders of the local Public Prosecutor's Office.
The investigation builds on a previous operation conducted last July within the same campsite. At that time, the military seized eight mobile homes that were being illegally erected. The structures had already been connected to the water and sewer networks.
These initial investigations subsequently led to a more extensive review of the entire facility. Further checks, based on certifications from the technical offices of the Municipality of Centola, revealed that the entire campsite had been built and operated without the necessary permits.
According to investigators' findings, the structure was found to lack urban planning and landscape planning permission, as well as the necessary permit for operating as a tourist accommodation business.
Not only that, the investigations also revealed the lack of the necessary permits for the occupation of state-owned maritime land and the authorizations for the disposal of liquid waste and sludge produced by the activity.
A painting that, according to the investigative hypothesis, would have affected the campsite since its origins and not just the more recent works.
The location of the facility is also particularly significant. The seized area is located in a coastal zone subject to landscape restrictions and protected by the Cilento Coastal Landscape Plan.
The precautionary seizure therefore concerns the entire tourist-accommodation facility, while the judicial police continue their investigations to reconstruct the urban and administrative history of the campsite and verify any further liability.
The project is part of the monitoring activities carried out by the Carabinieri of the Park Department to protect the environmental and landscape heritage of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, especially in the coastal areas most affected by tourism and construction pressure.
